Year 1 Semester 3 Practice Project 1: Fashion Design (collab with RAR)

Project brief

1. In a group of 2 person, student need to unravel and reveal your creative side in general several modes of communication into art form that shows the garment design. The garment serves the purpose of providing the body with shelter and protection.

2. This ideas and qualities will later be applied as an artwork that can be worn on a body as a garment by combining your creativity and design making. The artwork must in RECYCLED MATERIALS only to exemplify rigorous design thinking and the highest form of creative interpretation.

3. The entire class will plan and organize a fashion show under TARCAS society to showcase their design garments.

This project requires us to have an inter-collaboration with Architecture course students, which is within the School of Architecture. We have also organised a fashion show in the name of TARCAS (TAR UMT Architecture Society).

Draft of project & Design development

Inspired by an architecture sculpture called "Ascension"in Sunsuria City by Muthalib Musa, we decided to make a dress full of pleats. The materials we used are magazines and tracing paper.

Design execution

For the base of the garment, we designed a corset to strengthen the core of the garment using plastic ropes to tie around the waist like a belt. Then we taped it after tying the corset to make sure it doesn't loosen up.

Fashion show

Before the D-Day, we went through a lot of rehearsals to make sure everything was going perfectly on the day of the fashion show. We had so much fun in the fashion show, and got lots of support from other students within the campus. Feel free to enjoy our 10-minutes video here:
