Year 2 Semester 1 Final Project: Age In Place

Task 1: Site Analysis (Class work)

Project brief

This project will be located at, No 50, Jalan Halamanda, Halamanda Gombak, Kuala

Lumpur. In a Group of 4/5, you need to form a site investigation. An introduction to

the existing condition of the chosen site with further exploration of the neighbourhood

context within the parameter. A potential site - an existing industrial facility with

substantial public amenities and a subject matter that requires investigation and

research. The understanding of the site, location, context, circulation, surroundings, etc. needs to be investigated. Furthermore, substantial information and knowledge

about the subject itself is to be considered for design context and input. Site

measurements to be executed before the completion of the site model.

Task 2: Precedent Study (Group work)

Project brief

To explore, identify, invent and activate a suitable space planning with your client

needs and divert to a series of precedent studies of the chosen project with similar

climatic conditions, so that issues on sustainability, local contexts, house layout, and

potential nodes of user’s activities can be researched in detail. Each group is to

prepare an analysis of minimum 3 precedent studies which focus on the spatial

planning, universal design, sustainable design strategies, regulatory requirements of

health, safety and welfare, fire safety, and accessibility regulations, elements of design

considerations, such as interior, landscape, materials, finishing, furniture, lighting, and

comfort of the user activities. Comprehensive analysis and synthesis of the Functional

Requirements of spaces for chosen project from both international and local

buildings/architects and analysis of conceptual design, space planning, circulation,

forms & technology, and space zoning of the chosen project.

Task 3: Schematic Design Proposal

Project brief

To create of a physical creative & spatial insertion in spaces with considerations to

anthropometrics, ergonomics, materiality, detailing and innovation to an universal

design principle and aesthetic value. The scenario of spaces where the users will get

to experience spaces with objective to learn by exploring the spaces provided.

Effective visual communication and appropriate usage of drawings and models and

presentation skills in relation to the concept must be in line with the project. You should

at least prepare at least 3 schematic design proposals and the final schematic design

should be developed and presented.

Task 4: Final Design Proposal

Project brief

Crafting the design proposal through refining and detailing of the project to a more

advanced stage. By this phase, student’s working drawing and progress report should

be running parallel with the project. The programme for final review should be

considered by now. Effective visual communication and appropriate usage of

drawings and models and presentation skills in relation to the concept must be in line

with the project. Detailing works, materiality, and sustainable innovation included.
